Hepatitis C infection is a viral infection caused by Hepatitis C virus.
Mode of Transmission:
i) Parenteral-Transfusion of blood and blood products, intravenous drug abuse, body tattooing & occupational exposure
ii) Sexual
iii) Vertical (from mother to child.)
i)Blood test for HCV Antibody
ii)Raised ALT, AST
Signs of Hepatitis C are as follows:
i) Chills
ii) Headache
iii) Malaise
iv) Anorexia
G.I Symptoms of Hepatitis C are as follows:
i) Nausea
ii) Vomiting
iii) Diarrhea
iv) Upper abdominal pain
v) Jaundice
They are transmitted through feco-oral route. It is mainly transmitted through contaminated water and food.
Both Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E are curable.
i) As a precautionary measure one must maintain good personal, environmental & food hygiene.
a) Washing of hands before meals, handling food, after toilet (after defecation)
b) Cleaning of kitchen utensils regularly
c) Boiled water should be taken
d) Avoid eating raw or undercooked food
ii) To take Hepatitis A vaccine
i) The patient should do normal work
ii) The patient should take normal food
iii) The patient should avoid alcohol
iv) The patient should avoid unnecessary medication
v) The patient should take supportive treatment if necessary
vi) The patient should maintain good personal, environmental and food hygiene
Infection of liver by Hepatitis D virus.
It never infects liver solely. This infection is always associated with HBV.
Route of transmission is same as that of HBV. Detection HBV antibody in blood is the only positive sign.
