1st - 4th Kolkata Liver Meeting

LFWB organizes monothematic scientific interactive seminars, once in two years. Till date we have organized seven liver meetings which drew the cream of hepatologists from all over the world.

First Kolkata Liver Meeting was held in December, 2006, on Hepatic Fibrosis. Leading researches from across the globe participated in the event. The list included Scott L Friedman (Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, USA), Massimo Pinzani (Italy), James L Boyer (USA), Ian Wanless (Canada), Vlad Ratziu (France). The meeting was sponsored by Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) and the Indian National Association for Study of the Liver (INASL). Over 250 physicians, gastroenterologists, hepatologists and students from India and Bangladesh took part in the two-and-a-half-day long meeting.

Second Kolkata Liver Meeting was held in December, 2008 at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Salt Lake, Kolkata. The theme this time was "Acute on Chronic Liver Failure". Speakers included Dr. Pere Gines (France), Dr. Andrew Burroughs (England), Dr. Rajiv Jalan (England), Dr. G. Garcia-Tsao (USA), Dr. Rajeswar Mukherji (UK). From This year "Dr. A.K. Basu Memorial Oration" was started in memory of Professor Basu, who led Indian research on portal hypertension in the 1960s and 1970s. The first lecture was delivered by Dr. James L Boyer, Director, Yale Liver Centre, USA.

Third Kolkata Liver Meeting was held from December 3 to 5, 2010 at Vivakananda Institute of Medical science, Kolkata. The Theme was "Chronic Viral Hepatitis - Immunology, Molecular Biology and therapy". R. P. Beasley, Ranjit Ray, N. G. Ghany, N. Zein from USA, J. Fung, C.Lai from Hong Kong, M Mizokami from Japan, C Ferrari from Italy, C J Chen from Taiwan were the invited faculties.

Fourth Kolkata Liver Meeting was held at Taj Bengal Hotel, Kolkata on December 15th & 16th, 2012. The theme of the conference was NAFLD/NASH-INDO-EUROPEAN SUMMIT. Dr. Alessandra Mangia, Dr. Gyongyi Szabo, Dr. J.F. Dufour, Dr. Jacob George, Dr. Naga Chalasani were some of the eminent faculties present at the meeting.
